C51 Cedral Cladding on One of the Harshest Coasts in Cornwall

Porthleven

April 2019

We have just finished updating this 200-year-old cottage in Porthleven so it can survive another 100 years. We had to remove the old tiles and cement render underneath the tiles to allow for good fixing points for the 50mm x 30mm battens. This would also to allow the building to breathe again.

Once this was done we started raking all the stone joints out so we could put a lime render mix back in. Once this was done we could start installing the battens onto the blockwork. All battens have been installed with stainless steel screws as the property is so close to the sea. The battens have been spaced at less than 400mm centres to cope with the wind speed.

The installers then placed a breathable membrane over the battens and started installing the C51 Cedral cladding. All window trims, starter trims and stop ends with perforated breathers had been installed so the C51 Cedral cladding could go on. Our sister company R&R Fascias were also asked to install new anthracite fascias with guttering and downpipes.
